SPECIALIST DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENTS
Diagnostic
assessments
can
be
conducted
for
any
person
requiring
a
full
diagnosis
of
dyslexia.
They
can
be
useful
when
a
person
needs
a clear diagnosis of dyslexia (or other specific learning disability) and screening results are not sufficient evidence.
Post 16 assessments
Whether
in
the
work
place
or
in
higher
education,
many
people
do
not
realise
that
they
are
dyslexic.
For
many,
a
diagnosis
comes
as
a
relief as it is an explanation for difficulties they may have encountered throughout their lives.
This
initial
assessment
will
confirm
if
a
person
is
dyslexic
as
well
as
identify
strengths
and
weaknesses.
We
offer
assessment
for
adults
which
lasts
up
to
four
hours,
during
which
time
you
will
be
asked
to
complete
a
series
of
different
tests
that
will
provide
a
profile
of
your
strengths
and
weaknesses.
The
assessment
looks
at
background,
education,
ways
of
thinking,
learning
and
problem-solving
techniques as well as reading, writing, spelling and possibly maths.
The
assessor
can
offer
you
a
brief
evaluation
of
their
key
findings
at
the
end
of
the
assessment
and
will
also
prepare
a
comprehensive
and confidential report of the results with future recommendations for action.
A
post
assessment
consultation
is
included
in
the
cost
of
your
assessment
as
it
is
important
that
you
have
the
opportunity
to
discuss
the findings with a professional who can offer you further advice and guidance.
If the report is needed to support an application for the Disabled Student Allowance it should be conducted post 16 years of age.
Assessments
conducted
for
young
people
(post
16)
still
in
education-
these
reports
can
be
used
to
provide
information
for
Exam
Access
Arrangements (extra time, readers, writers, separate room etc) at GCSE, A Level and Further Education.
For school aged children
The
assessment
will
involve
a
series
of
psychometric
tests
to
measure
spatial
and
verbal
memory,
reading
and
spelling
in
a
standardised way so that results can be compared with others within the population of the same age range.
The
assessor
will
provide
key
findings
at
the
end
of
the
assessment
and
you
will
subsequently
receive
a
comprehensive
confidential
report setting out the results in details.
The
report
outlines
strengths
and
weaknesses,
and
indicates
if
an
individual
has
a
specific
learning
difficulty,
such
as
dyslexia,
as
well
as providing important information about specific learning needs and suggestions for action.
Where can the assessment take place?
In your home or on the premises of dast staff.
How long does the assessment process last?
The
assessment
itself
will
last
anything
between
2½
to
4
hours.
A
post
assessment
feedback
session
can
be
provided
which
will
last
up
to 40 minutes. Reports can be provided within 10 working days of the initial assessment.
How much does an assessment cost?
Between £400 and £500 pounds, depending on the purposes of the assessment.
